Texas’ ScrewCharged Bad Asses
Considering how well Kyle
Huettel had performed behind the
wheel of his flat-black, nitrous-injected, fourth-generation Camaro,
it was a bit of a shock to see him
roll out a new car for 2016. Rather
than continue with his nitrous
combination, Huettel showed up
in screw-blown Corvette built
by Xtreme Race Cars, similar
to the one campaigned by his
longtime friend and teammate
Jason Michalak. With something
of a outlaw drag racing super
team including Frankie Taylor,
Billy Stocklin, Mick Snyder and
Jeff Pierce, the Texas-based
Bad9er Racing team were early
favorites at Lights Out 7. And
the gang delivered as Michalak
set low elapsed time of the event
May 2016
and earned the top qualifying
spot with his then-record-setting 3.876-second eighth-mile
blast. Huettel seemed poised for
greatness in Georgia, too, but lost
traction and swapped lanes and
tagged Dave Bowman and his
Radial vs. World Ford Mus-
tang. Fortunately, both drivers
were able to walk away from the
incident, though their cars were
badly damaged.
