LIGHTS OUT 7
Class of the Field
X275 has most assuredly
established itself as one of the
most competitive and controversial categories in all of drag
racing. Almost constant bickering
amongst participants and rule
makers keeps things interesting
24/7, but the on-track product
is what really shines – almost as
much as Rob Goss’ stunning late
model Dodge Challenger. Powered
by a BES Racing Engines-built
404ci Mopar boosted by a F1-X
ProCharger backed by a Coan
converter and ATF powerglide
transmission, Goss set low E.T.
and took top qualifying honors
with a 4.396-second pass. Goss
fell out of competition in the semifinals to fellow X275 frontrunner
Jared Johnston.

Marty Robinson’s 1968 Plymouth Barracuda, a low 4.0 player in
Radial vs. World, may be the coolest car in all of drag racing –
certainly one of. Powered by a 521ci Hemi force-fed by a ProCharger F-3X, the “Badfish” ‘Cuda sounds and performs more like
a Top Alcohol Funny Car than the mean street car it looks like.
