LIGHTS OUT 7 Malibu’s Three-Second Breakthrough Car owner Jason Carter and Mark Micke, driver and owner of M&M Transmission, had their hands full when they arrived on the grounds of SGMP. Their beloved Chevy Malibu was merely a rolling chassis; the engine had been sent off to Nelson Competition for updates and the car was awaiting the installation of a new engine management system from FuelTech. After an all-day and night thrash, the team made a few shakedown runs on the Wednesday of the race before reeling off the team’s first-ever three-second pass later in the weekend with an incredible 3.978-second, 200-plus mph lap.
