Drag Radial Top 8 Lists Shown No Mercy!
As expected, the seventh edition of Donald Long’ s notorious No Mercy event at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Georgia, obliterated the standards for Drag Radial machinery. The shocker was the fact the event was run in far worse than the near-perfect atmospheric conditions the race has enjoyed. Heat and humidity slowed the pace through qualifying and only on the final day of competition did the weather cooperate.
Prior to the meet, a driver could gain a spot in the DI Drag Radial Top 8 with almost any run quicker than 3.90 seconds. By the time the winner’ s circle ceremonies ended for“ Radial Versus the World” Champion DeWayne Mills, Texan Jeff Sitton’ s nitrous oxide injected, 864-cubic inch 2000 Camaro was the slowest car in the Top 8 at an insane 3.836.
The drop of almost six hundredths of a second,( a change of almost two percent!), was the largest yet and represents an improvement of fourteen hundredths of a second since the start of the 2016 season.
The DI Drag Radial Speed Top 8 is now 2.77 mph faster with no less than five drivers over
210 mph and that premiere group is separated by a mere 2.78 mph.
Of note, however, was the fact a supercharged entry, the blown Hemi-powered 2006 Pontiac GTO owned by Eddie Whelan and tuned by fellow New Yorker Jim Salemi of G-Force Race Cars, clocked under 3.8 seconds. Driver Joe Albrecht hit a 3.781 in the final round against Mills’ all-time record for turbocharged record of 3.765 in the best conditions of the event to align the boost entries within three hundredths of a second of Stevie“ Fast” Jackson’ s controversial nitrous-aided 3.751 from April which remains the quickest Radial pass yet recorded.
Another Six-Cylinder Record for Ekanoo and White!
As if Ebrahim Mohammed Kanoo’ s amazing line of drag racing vehicles have not already turned drag racing upside down over the past six seasons, yet another major performance barrier has been shattered by Bahrain’ s most dominant racing operation.
To recap, the EKanoo Team’ s 2015 Toyota GT86, which still uses a Shane Tecklenburg-tuned 195 cubic inch inline Toyota powerplant with a single turbocharger, became the first six-cylinder machine to break 250 mph in a quarter-mile earlier in 2016. However, Alabama driving star Gary White added to his list of records by becoming the first to exceed 200 mph in the eighth-mile with a staggering 202.20 mph on a 3.86 effort,( the first half of a 5.854 / 235.47 quarter-mile run), during the eventually washed-out PDRA Sunshine State Shootout at Bradenton, Florida. The sport’ s only five-second six-banger has now achieved every possible standard for the combination
