Nitrous doorslammer legend Shannon“ The Iceman” Jenkins found himself back behind the wheel of the Speedtech 1969 Camaro at the PDRA Memphis Drags as its usual driver, Mike Castellana, had to miss the event due to business commitments with his well-known Western Beef supermarket chain in New York. Jenkins’ 3.874, 197 mph effort put him in the top five of a stacked field after the opening qualifying session, but was ultimately bumped down to 15th. The softspoken Alabaman proved he’ s as cool as ever with a considerable holeshot over first-round opponent Lizzy Musi, though tire shake prevented Jenkins from moving on to round two. DI
