Month in and month out, we seek to shine a light on the wide-ranging group of people who make up the sport of drag racing. Once a year, though, we dedicate a special spread of pages in Drag Illustrated to the young men and women who have spent a considerable amount of their 30 or less years on Earth as a participant in the straight-line pursuit. There are countless individuals who fit this profile – just look at the booming NHRA Junior Drag Racing League, or the High School class on any given weekend at local tracks across the country.
Through a widespread online search for nominees, in which nearly 9,000 different nomination forms were filled out by parents, siblings, grandparents, schoolteachers, neighbors, and fellow racers, the Drag Illustrated staff decided on the DI 30 Under 30 class of 2016. This year’ s honorees are millennials who don’ t fit the stereotypes of millennials. Some are doing big things behind the wheel of a race car on the sport’ s grandest stages, while others toil away in pit areas, dyno rooms, and chassis shops. A handful of these members burst onto the scene in 2016; many more have been working away consistently for years, chasing the next winning time slip, shiny trophy, or giant cardboard check. Whether they’ re driving, tuning, or doing a little bit of everything, we believe these 30 youthful guys and girls are some of the brightest stars who will help carry drag racing into the future.
