DIALED IN
RICO DRAGWAY
in the high 4-second zone. “You can definitely
write it up as a 4.??-second vehicle,” laughed
Porky. The truck entertains fans with notoriously
violent launches and carries the front tires past
the 300-foot mark. Sellers drove exceptionally
well during this event en route to capturing the
win, beginning with a first-round matchup with
Gary Crowell, who was driving his 1981 Camaro.
Crowell was outgunned in performance alongside
Sellers, and while big-time horsepower doesn’t
always prevail at Rico, conventional wisdom
reigned supreme during this opening-round race.
Porky’s hole-shot didn’t hurt either.
In round two, Sellers met Demetrius “Meat-
ball” Beatty, who drove a 1990 Mustang. Sellers
realized that Beatty was a game competitor with
plenty of power, so Porky elected to spray it with
a single shot of nitrous oxide and then drove it
hard for the entire length of the track. “I got the
jump on him out of the gate and didn’t see him
no more after that,” said Sellers, who nabbed the
win and advanced.
The closest match-up of the day came exactly
when it’s supposed to: the final round. Sellers
went head-to-head with one of his chassis cus-
tomers, J.R. Washington, who drives a lethal 1969
Nova. It was anybody’s race when the tree flashed
green, although Sellers once again jumped to a
slight lead early and held it until the win light
came on in the right-hand lane, which Porky and
his LUV truck occupied throughout the event.
Per usual, money changed hands and fans en-
thusiastically debated elapsed times for days to
come. “I was real happy to get the win and I’ve
got to thank my son, Nathan, and my other crew
members, Dean McKeithan and Joe Hagee, for
all their help,” concluded Sellers.
