GATEKEEPER
Troy Reed( near lane) heats the hides of his great-looking Chevy Vega at Indiana’ s Brown County Dragway during a big-money bracket race. In this final round photo, Reed, from Hustonville, Kentucky, would face the Piercefield brothers, Kevin and Dave, who hail from nearby North Vernon, Indiana, and campaign a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle that was built almost entirely by Kevin and driven weekly by Dave. The Piercefields are always tough competitors here at Brown County, but it would be Reed who took the win on this particular July afternoon. Kameron Mason( pictured below tower) plays an important role during each and every run by swinging the staging lane gates open and closed, so that the next pair of cars in line doesn’ t get pelted with rocks from the burnout. Brown County Dragway is comprised of unique, often handmade components, time-honored equipment and passionate racers that keep this beloved, unsanctioned facility thriving weekly.
