Innovation carries Leach family business to 50th anniversary
CD Engineering was
first started as a way
for owner Steve Leach
to help his own racing
ventures, which makes it fitting
that 50 years later the company
remains closely linked to the drag-
strip. For years, they have been
a staple in NHRA’s nitro classes,
with RCD products like its start-
ers and blower belts becoming a
go-to in Top Fuel.
Leach and his son, Jason, were
also crew members with Steve
Plueger’s Nostalgia Funny Car,
most notably during Leah Pritch-
ett’s championship-winning sea-
son in 2010, using it as a hands-
on research and development
opportunity. Coupled with the
company’s close relationship with
crew chiefs, it is understandable
why RCD, which also produces
camshaft drives, blower drives,
blower pulleys, crankshaft parts
and much more, has stayed a step
ahead in terms of innovat
