LEAD SLED LEA Lea Ochs, “the First Lady of True Street”, blasts off the starting line in her nitrous-assisted 1978 Ford Fairmont station wagon during a test pass at the Texas True Street Shootout. She went on to claim a runner- up finish in what would be one of the car’s last passes before it suffered a 100-plus-mph impact with the retaining wall one month later at Shannon Morgan’s Redemption No-Prep race at Texas Motorplex. Ochs, the 2017 Doomsday No-Prep True Street winner, went to work rebuilding the Fairmont with fab work by James Mowdy of Hazard Fab. Now known as “The Resurrection”, the car will sport a turbocharged, 400 ci LSX motor built by Lea’s husband, Gary, and backed by a Mr. Wendell’s Motorsports-prepared transmission.
