fter suffering through a significant dry spell, Shane Stack came back in a big way to shake things up in 2017 with multiple wins, a season championship, and a whole new attitude to- wards his racing program. A lifelong Huntsville, Ala- bama, resident, Stack has always been close to racing. Besides having Huntsville Dragway nearby, his neighbor, Randy “Snake,” was always working on some new project and would let Stack tag along. “It wasn’t my dad, Jerry Stack, who got me into racing – he can’t even put a chain on a bicycle, but he’s a doctor so at least he’s good for something,” laughs Stack, now 43. “Randy drag raced some but was mostly a street/hot rod kind of guy.” Starting around the fourth grade, Stack would head home after school and spend his days hang- ing out in Randy’s garage. “He was pretty patient with me and put up a whole lot,” Stack admits. Thanks to Randy’s encouragement and tutelage, though, Stack was inspired to start a racing ca- reer of his own. From dirt bikes to four wheelers, RC cars and more, he raced anything he could get his hands on. April 2018 DragIllustrated.com | D r a g I l l u s t r a t e d | 69
