‘BLACKBIRD’
EARNS ITS WINGS
When Geoff Turk lit up the scoreboard with a 7.996-second pass at 170.10 mph during the
opening round of qualifying at the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals, he didn’t just collect the No.
1 qualifying position in Holley EFI Factory Super Car. He also cemented his name in NMCA
history as the first driver to officially record a 7-second pass in the increasingly popular
class that features supercharged drag cars from Detroit’s “Big 3” manufacturers. Though
Turk clicked off a 7.97 in his “Blackbird” Dodge Drag Pak Challenger during pre-race testing,
the 7.99 was the first 7-second pass completed in competition. NMCA officials performed a
four-hour tech inspection after the run, verifying the legitimacy of the historic pass.
