Q & A
ADAM FLAMHOLC
By Nate Van Wagnen
Swedish Pro Mod racer Adam Flamholc has made a name for himself in American doorslammer racing over the last decade, competing in a variety of classes on both sides of the Atlantic. He made a brief attempt at NHRA Pro Stock before setting his focus on supercharged Pro Mods in NHRA Pro Mod, IHRA Pro Modified and NMCA Xtreme Pro Mod over the last several years. Now, Flamholc is a top player in PDRA Pro Extreme, racing against the quickest and fastest doorslammers in the world with his screw-blown 5 Days Plantation Shutters & Blinds’ 63 Corvette.
After securing his first event win of the season at the North-South Shootout, Flamholc sat down with DRAG ILLUSTRATED to talk about his Pro Extreme program and the challenges of racing on different continents.
What made you decide to run PDRA Pro Extreme this season?
Well, I’ ve been running a Roots supercharger from Mike Janis for some years now, and I wanted a new challenge and wanted to run faster. That’ s why I made the decision to run Pro Extreme. We build our engines at our shop( Hameetman Racing Engines) in Cape Coral, Florida, and had some ideas we wanted to try. My partner, Daryl Hameetman, also runs the whole PDRA series in our main sponsor’ s 5 Days Plantation Shutters & Blinds Pro Outlaw 632 car. So we carry both cars in the trailer, and we have time to help each other out between runs.
You announced a $ 1,000 callout for any Pro Extreme drivers to race you at the PDRA Summer Drags in Martin, Michigan. Why did you do that?
Yeah, on the first two events this year, only four different cars have showed up to race in Pro Extreme, so I guess I’ m trying to stir the pot a bit and get people interested in the class again! There are cars out there, and PDRA is a great place to race at – good payouts, great tracks, and so on. I think that the rumors that PDRA was gonna cut the class have hurt the car count, but now they came out and said that Pro Extreme is here to stay, so I really hope we get the support we need from teams and car owners! What are your goals for the rest of the season? I have a new car and a new engine combination, so I’ m still learning what it likes, but we have done OK so far. My goal is to win the series.
You travel back and forth between Florida and your native Sweden. How do you manage that and plan out your racing schedule for the season?
I’ m busy. I’ m gonna do all the races in PDRA and work at HRE in Florida, then work at my engine shop in Europe, Malmo Motorrenovating, and help teams in Russia with their Pro Mod cars and help a couple of Pro Extreme / Pro Mod cars in Europe. Who are some of your supporters? I really want to thank my sponsors – Kvinesdal Auto, HRE, MMR, R & R Rods, Amalie Oil, Line2Line Coatings, and 5 Days Plantation Shutters and Blinds – for supporting me. They are all big factors in my program. And the biggest thanks goes to my family, as they let me“ live the dream.”
