OUT OF BOUNDS
Rising Pro Nitrous star Randy Weatherford saves his WS Construction ‘69
Camaro from a near-certain run-in with Jay Cox and the “Pumpkin” ‘69 Camaro
during the first qualifying session at the inaugural PDRA Firecracker Nationals.
Weatherford got his Musi-powered hot rod settled down and coasted down the
rest of the new all-concrete Virginia racing surface. He later claimed the cross-up
showed him “how far he could go with it,” adding that he used it as a learning
experience to improve for the final two sessions. The Maryland race winner went
on to record a 3.75-second pass in the heat during Q2, then uncorked a 3.71 at
202 mph in the final session to claim his second No. 1 qualifier award.
