“(Crew chief) Eric Lane has shown me what I’m capable of. I’ve never driven better than I have at this point in my career and I have never believed in a car more than the one I have now.” — Bob Tasca III MOVERS & SHAKERS PRO NITROUS PALS Longtime PDRA Pro Nitrous competitors Randy Weatherford (left) and Chris Rini, who have also regularly squared off against each other in small regional Pro Mod series throughout the East Coast, pose for a photo at the top end. Pick-A-Part Back in 1962, Max Lang was just returning home from a vacation in Mexico when a local racer blew the motor in his 1940 Willys. It worked out perfectly for Lang since he was just getting started in racing, and the prior owner of the Willys was ready to quit. Lang bought the car, dropped in a motor from his ‘52 Mercury and has raced it ever since. TEACHER’S PET KING’S COURT All is well for Carolina doorslammer hero Todd “King Tut” Tutterow as he steps away from his supercharged AAP ‘68 Camaro following a test pass at the PDRA Firecracker Nationals. Troy Salazar (right) grew up in California and became interested in cars after taking an auto shop class at his local high school. Amazingly, his teacher just happened to be a guy named Gary Densham, who went on to have a notable career in NHRA Funny Car. Salazar met Tom Jamison (left) at their local Coles County Dragway a number of years ago, and now the two take turns driving Salazar’s dragster in the Super Pro category. 34 | D r a g I l l u s t r a t e d | DragIllustrated.com Issue 135
