The final great performance battle of 2018 came to an end at Ozzy Moya’s Orlando (FL) Speed World Dragway where the track’s twenty-fifth BLP World Street Nationals and seventh World Sport Compact Challenge were backdrops to a titanic battle among the world’s most powerful four-cylinder passenger cars. Second-generation Canadian star Carl Brunet, (whose father, Ron, was a Pro Stock pioneer), became the first four-cylinder racer under 6.30 seconds and over 220 miles per hour almost four years ago when he ran 6.29/222 in his turbocharged, 128 cubic inch 2011 Pontiac GXP at Orlando during an NHRA LODRS event. At Maryland International Raceway’s huge twenty-third annual HalTech Import versus Domestic World Cup Showdown, Ali hit a best of 6.263 en route to the overall ATI Radial vs. Modified title while posting a speed of 225.27 mph. Ali and Wilshire were scheduled to attend Orlando for both November events making the Florida meeting a true international showdown. Wilshire’s Brisbane-based Jett Eclipse uses a 122-cubic inch Mitsubishi 4G63 four-cylinder with two turbochargers in a unique “com- pound” layout in which a Garrett-Advancing Motion Turbocharger GTX4202R feeds into a 98mm GTX5533R GEN II Garrett-AMT.
