DON CARLTON MEMORIAL
version and will be running with both Nostalgia
Pro Stock groups in 2019.
This year’s race had plenty of excitement for
the fans. Spectators were on their feet for all the
long, smoky burnouts, old-school dry hops and
starting-line burndowns. Indiana’s Bill White,
driving the Joe Satmary Camaro, received the
Best Reaction Time award of
the event.
The Midwest and the South-
east met in the finals, as Illinois’
Mike Roppo in his Butch Leal
Castrol Nationwise Trans Am
went up against Shane Westmo-
reland in his Joe Lepone JOB
Beretta. Both cars had been
deadly all evening, however, in
the end it was Westmoreland
who pulled out the win with a
.002 margin over Roppo. Identi-
cal 4.84s had the fans on their
feet with excitement. They were
door handle to door handle
from start to finish.
In addition to the on-track ac-
tion, several car owners traveled
to the race to display their pris-
tine show cars. These included
McGrath Keen’s Mike Fonz
“Motown Missile,” Gary French’s
original Don Carlton Nationwise Rod Shop Dart
and Mike Sipe’s customized Dodge Colt.
The Southeast Outlaw Nostalgia Pro Stock’s
next showing will be the Shriner’s Hot Rod &
Drag Racing Expo, February 15-16, 2019 in
Greensboro, North Carolina. Plans are in the
works to unveil five new cars at this event. Nos-
talgia Pro Stock fans won’t want to miss DI it. DI DI
