In Coan Engineering Stock/Super Stock, Daren Poole Adams arrived at a 9.47 on a 10.90 index in his COPO Camaro to lead qualifying, but in the final, Jeffrey Frees flew to a 9.97 on a 9.90 in his Challenger to win over Mark Ruset, who ran to an 11.96 on an 11.88 in his Camaro. In Quick Fuel Technology Nostalgia Super Stock, Jeff Frees led qualifying with a 9.25 on a 9.25 index in his Barracuda, but it was his brother, Tim Frees, who made it to the final. There he secured a 10.52 on a 10.50 index in his Savoy to push out Corky Bumpus, who ran 10.76 on a 10.75 index in his Barracuda. Mike Moistner managed a 12.00 on a 12.00 index in his Mustang to lead qualifying in Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle Car, but it was Chad Brewer and reigning class champion Andy War- ren who went to the final. Brewer picked up the win with a 10.52 on a 10.50 index in his Nova, while Warren was 10.04 on a 10.00 in his Caprice. Fresh off a win at the season-opening NMCA race in Florida in March, Cameron Bowles put up a .004 in his Maverick to lead qualifying in MagnaFuel Open Comp. For the second race in a row, he made it to the final, but this time, Kelly Pierce had positioned himself for the win by recording a better reaction time and running right on his 10.17 dial in his Malibu, while Bowles was 9.22 on a 9.19 dial. A special feature at all six events on the NMCA tour is the ever-growing Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout. At this event, David Clarke was the overall winner with a 9.52 average in a Hellcat while Todd Chasson was the runner-up with a 10.15 average in a Demon. Richard Stimson was the 10-second winner in a Demon, David Hamil- ton was the 11-second winner in a Charger, Robert Pitt was the 12-second winner in a Challenger and Mike Smith was the 13-second winner in a Char- ger. Michael Oellrich pushed to the 14-second win in a Challenger. Later, the eight quickest drivers in the category came together for the Arrington Performance HEMI Quick 8 presented by Red Line Oil. When the dust settled, Todd Classon landed the win with a 10.26 in a Demon while Peter Mansolillo was 10.33 in his Demon. For this event, EATON, NMCA, and NMRA partnered to present the EATON TVS Super- charger Throwdown, a heads-up race specially designed for drivers of vehicles with late-model engines including LS, LT, Modular, and Gen III HEMI engines with a TVS supercharger by any manufacturer. Oscar Morin drove his Mustang to an 8.68 to lead qualifying, and he made it to the final to face Brian Devilbiss and his Mustang. On the top end, Devilbiss took the win with a 9.27 to Morin’s 11.90. He’ll be rewarded with $1,000, a TVS supercharger from one of EATON’s technical partners, including Edelbrock, Harrop, Magnuson Superchargers or ROUSH Performance, and a custom TVS-themed award fabricated by EATON. Adding even more excitement to the event were the Street Outlaw All-Star Shootout, Stock All-Star Shootout and Open Comp All-Star Shootout. Phil Hines hauled to a 4.39 in his Mustang to win over Vinnie Palazzolo, who had trouble and couldn’t complete the pass in his Mustang in the Street Outlaw All-Star Shootout, while Jesse Wilson jammed to a 10.16 in his Camaro to secure the win over Darin Hendricks, who was 10.22 in his Mustang Cobra in the Stock All-Star Shootout. Dennis Corn drove to a break out time of 9.27 on a 9.30 dial in his Thunderbird to defeat Cameron Bowles, who also broke out with a 9.14 on a 9.19 in his Maverick in the Open Comp All-Star Shootout. In the Chevrolet Street Car Challenge, Greg Trail was the overall winner with a 10.27 average in a Corvette, while Kyle Rainey was the runner- up with a 10.75 average in a Camaro. Harry King picked up the 10-second win in a Camaro, Kevin Rowand picked up the 11-second win in a Corvette and Tom Calabrese picked up the 12-second win in a Camaro and Oscor Campes was the 13-second winner in a Camaro. Cars capable of taking a 30-mile cruise and then making three back-to-back passes down track were in the spotlight for Gear Vendors/QAI True Street, and when it was all said and done, Dana Beaty was the overall winner with an 8.98 average in a Mustang and Jason Beardslee was the runner-up with an 9.08 average in a Mustang. Dustin Ed- wards ran to the 9-second win in a Mustang, Rick Baum ran to the 10-second win in a Mustang and Cody Poston ran to the 11-second win in a Camaro. Michael Dabbs earned the 12-second win in a Chevrolet, Randy Pethel earned the 13-second win in a Mustang, Tyler Thorburg earned the 14-second win in a Mustang and Allen Smith earned the 15-second win in a Silverado. Drivers will pick up where they left off at the next stop on the NMCA tour, which is the highly anticipated Inaugural Comp Cams NMCA Mem- phis Homecoming, May 2-5 at Memphis Inter- national Raceway.
