“LET’S GO,
BABY,” SAYS
SCOTT OKSAS
AS HE FIST-
BUMPS WES
BUCK
from the seat of his twin-turbocharged ’67 Mustang
that sits under the tower at Bandimere Speedway.
The second-year D rag I llustrateD World Series of
Pro Mod competitor is riding a high that started
earlier in the day when he slipped by NHRA Pro Mod
points leader Stevie “Fast” Jackson in a stunning
first-round upset. Moments later, Oksas, an affable,
fun-loving guy from Southern California, would be
heard screaming over the sound of his hot rod in
the shutdown area, celebrating a career-defining,
$100,000 victory on Thunder Mountain.
Oksas’ story is one of numerous feel-good
stories that developed over the course of a week
in Morrison, Colorado, as 11 Pro Mod teams and
several dozen competitors in five additional classes
took part in the biggest, richest Pro Mod race in
the history of the known universe, the third annual
D rag I llustrateD World Series of Pro Mod presented
by J&A Service, Elite Motorsports, Big O Tires and
benefiting One Cure, August 9-10.
