Wheeler qualified in the third spot with a 9.505 on a 9.50 index in Florida , and in the second spot with 9.755 on a 9.75 in Illinois , secured a semifinal finish with a 9.77 on a 9.75 in Michigan and a runner-up with a 9.51 in Florida . He also earned the win in the FX Shootout category in the Dave Duell Nostalgia Super Stock Classic at the NMCA event in Indiana , where he was crowned the Nostalgia Super Stock champion .
While Dan Caissie had been racing in other categories for years , he was new to Open Comp in 2020 . He knew it was going to be a challenge , considering the competition in the category , but he was ready . In his Mustang powered by a big-block Ford by Rob Reynolds of Space Coast Speed , Caissie led qualifying with a . 001 reaction time in Illinois , landed a runner-up finish with a 10.28 on a 10.25 index in Florida and after being forced to back out of the throttle in Michigan . He wheeled to a win with a 10.88 on a 10.83 dial in Georgia .
The 2021 NMCA season is set to showcase six events , beginning with the NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem presented by Holbrook Racing Engines , March 18-21 , at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida . DI
