Q & A

Dallas Glenn

By Nate Van Wagnen

Dallas Glenn has had a burning

desire to drive a Pro Stock car half of his 30 years . It started when he ’ d spend most of his time at NHRA national events in the Pro Stock pits , watching the crew members work and asking questions . As a sportsman racer , Glenn was fascinated by the naturally aspirated “ factory hot rod ” class .
It turned out to be time well spent , as Glenn was referred to KB Racing by journalist and PR rep Kelly Wade when the team had three positions open up in 2012 . Glenn was hired as a tire guy for three-time NHRA Pro Stock world champion Jason Line . He learned all about tires and servicing the back half of a Pro Stock car , then progressed to building rear gears and doing the clutch . His experience made him the perfect candidate to move up to the car chief position on Line ’ s car . Most recently , he served as the car chief on Kyle Koretsky ’ s KB Racing-owned Camaro .
When Line and 2017 world champion Bo Butner announced their retirement from Pro Stock racing following the 2020 season , KB Racing suddenly had two top-flight cars available for 2021 . Sensing an opportunity to go Pro Stock racing , Glenn went to work , sending out sponsorship proposals and calling on friends he ’ d made through racing , specifically in his native Pacific Northwest .
On February 3 , Glenn announced that he ’ d secured funding to run four races in a KB Racingprepared Camaro with backing from RAD Torque Systems and Silver State Plumbing . The accomplished sportsman racer will make his NHRA Pro
Stock debut at the Gatornationals , while he plans to attend his first race in the car one weekend earlier at the second annual CTech Manufacturing World Doorslammer Nationals presented by JEGS , March 5-7 .
At what point did it start to seem like a possibility that you could get into one of these cars ?
I ’ ve always been real patient , but I ’ ve always felt like it was right around the corner . Jason has always hinted and joked like “ You ’ re going to smash my knee one day so you can get me out of the car so you can take over ,” just joking around .
It kind of hit me last year when I was in Vegas
talking with Shane Thompson , the owner of Silver State , about how much it costs to rent one of these cars . He said , “ I ’ d throw in some money if you were driving .” That ’ s when I realized I have a good chunk of what I need here , then I started calling some friends and one thing led to another . I ’ d call one friend and he ’ d know another guy who ’ d want to do something . I cleared everything with KB , which we ’ d talked in the past about it , and we were all good . It all just fell together shockingly easy .
You ’ re jumping into Pro Stock with a topflight operation . What does that opportunity
