DALLAS GLENN ’ S EARNED OPPORTUNITY
ROWING UP as a second-generation sportsman racer in the Pacific Northwest , Dallas Glenn knew he wanted to race Pro Stock someday . But he was a long way away from the Pro Stock epicenters like Mooresville , North Carolina , the longtime home of KB Racing .
So in 2012 , Glenn packed up and moved across the country to work for the Pro Stock powerhouse and its two-car team led by drivers Greg Anderson and Jason Line . He was a part of Line ’ s third world championship in 2016 , getting a taste of championship-level Pro Stock racing that he ’ s craved ever since .
Now , Glenn is the one chasing championships — in his rookie year , no less . With race wins in the spring , summer and fall , he ’ s been a part of the championship conversation all season . A massive win at the NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas over Halloween weekend — secured in part by a . 001 reaction time in the final round — kept Glenn in the hunt going into the Finals in Pomona .
“ To be able to have the success and to drive really well like I did , with the amount of distractions , it lets me know that I can do it even if there are distractions ,” says Glenn , who celebrated the Vegas win with nearly all of his supporters in attendance : team owners Ken and Judy Black , representatives from RAD Torque , Summit Racing Equipment , and GM , and his family . “ When there ’ s a lot of pressure and stuff on the line , it ’ s good to know that I can put my head down and focus on the task at hand .”
Glenn has dealt with the distractions and pressures of racing at such a high level remarkably well all season . He ’ s also adapted very quickly . Credit it to his sportsman racing background or the time he spent in the class as a crew member , but Glenn has appeared calm , cool and collected all season , even when things didn ’ t go his way .
“ During the race , the only thing I ’ m really thinking about is the next run I ’ m making and trying to win the race ,” Glenn says . “ I ’ ve been pretty good at not getting too distracted or too down on myself when I make a mistake . I try to just learn and move on . I try not to look back at those mistakes and think , ‘ Oh , if I had done this right , this is where I ’ d be .’ Instead , I look at what ’ s the best we can do now ? It ’ s move on and try to do everything we can .”
Outside the car , Glenn has stepped out of his comfort zone to handle the media obligations associated with NHRA professional racing . Between NHRA on FOX cameras in his face after a run to fielding phone interviews at the shop during the week , Glenn has taken it all in stride and put his best foot forward . He ’ s represented his sponsors very well , while also building a following .
“ At first I was a little nervous , but once you do a couple TV interviews ,
November 2021 you just get a little more confidence and get a little more relaxed and just have a conversation ,” says Glenn , who credits his wife and PR rep , Sadie , for contributing so much to his efforts , especially on the media side . “ All the extra media attention during the week took an adjustment , but I feel like I ’ ve adjusted pretty well . I usually always try to make time for media . I know how important it is . You can ’ t go complaining that Pro Stock ’ s not getting enough coverage , then not answer all the media requests . You need to take every second that you can get .”
This season ’ s success has been much more than Glenn could ’ ve ever expected . It ’ s also raised the bar for his 2022 goals . With primary backing from RAD Torque already locked in for next season , Glenn is ready for even bigger things in his sophomore season .
“ The ultimate goal for 2022 is to win a championship ,” Glenn says . “ It ’ s why we come out here . I want to go out and support RAD and GM and Summit and KB Racing , and win as many races as we possibly can and try to learn more about the car , the engines , the whole class in general , and just show younger drivers that if you just keep trying , you never know what ’ s going to happen . That ’ s what I look forward to for 2022 .”
