Drag radial veteran Tommy Youmans takes flight in his turbocharged ‘ 70 Pontiac GTO during a Thursday evening Pro 275 qualifying session at the FuelTech Radial Outlaws Series “‘ Bama Outlaws ” event . Youmans had the front wheels in the air for the first half of his eighth-mile run , set the front end down , then picked it back up and caught wind that picked the car up just past the finish line . The car was airborne for a few seconds before crashing down right-side up in the grass near the scoreboards . Youmans climbed out of the car , though he required back surgery and a lengthy recovery to heal up from the crash .
