Aidan Heatley-Smith sustains a violent and dramatic explosion shortly after leaving the starting line in his Ant Hill Mob Top Fuel dragster . A post on the team ’ s Facebook page indicated the blowup was caused by an electronic fuel timing module malfunction .

Heatley-Smith , the son of past FIA Top Fuel champion Smax Smith , is carrying on the family tradition of nitro racing . This incident during testing at the IHRA Canadian Nationals was a major setback for the team , but it certainly wowed the crowd and made for stunning photos and videos .
