The underground cloak and dagger world of highstakes grudge racing is big business and Aiken , South Carolina ’ s Carolina Dragway is a hotbed of “ run whatcha brung , and don ’ t show my elapsed time ” style of racing . Fans pack the stands late into the night for some of the most exciting and secretive drag racing you ’ ll ever see . Photographed on a hot summer night in August 2010 , the recipe for this unique image involved an ultra-slow shutter speed , a flat-black Camaro experiencing an untimely flash of backfire out the headers , and a 10-mph headwind to float the ghostly nitrous purge through the night sky .
