STOCK ELIMINATOR WINNER MONTY BOGAN JR .
Carolina sportsman racing veteran Monty Bogan Jr . has won plenty of races on pure skill alone , but even he admitted luck played a role in his $ 30,000 win in Stock Eliminator . A broken carburetor in the semifinals would ’ ve sent him packing , but when Brett Candies went red by . 013 , Bogan got the chance to move on to the final round , where he defeated Michael Brand II .
“ Mike DePalma , Mark Lewis , and Chad Taylor all jumped in and fixed it for me and it was all good to go ,” Bogan said . “ That was the lucky round of the race . You ’ ve gotta have one lucky round . That was my big , big round .”
Bogan in his WT ’ s of Jonesville-backed ‘ 67 Camaro qualified No . 14 and won the opening round over Dave Bares before knocking out Tyler Bohannon in round two . A 10.742 on a 10.74 dial-in gave Bogan the third-round win over a too-quick Jay Storey . After that lucky round win over Candies in the semis , Bogan loaded a . 004 reaction time and a 10.715 on a 10.71 dial-in in the final round . That got the job done over Brand , who broke out with an 8.663 on an 8.67 dial-in .
“ This is a great event ,” said Bogan , who gave a shout out to Mickey Thompson Tires along with his wife , daughter , and grandchild . “ This was a fun race . I wish you would have a bunch more of them . We love it down here . It ’ s Florida in February . I mean , come on . We had a ball . We ’ ll celebrate tonight . Probably gonna feel a little hungover in the morning , but we had a good time .” DI

While multi-time Pro Stock world champion Jason Line ’ s plans to compete in the Pro Stock field didn ’ t come to fruition , he did make headlines in Stock Eliminator driving his B / SA ‘ 70 Buick GS . He posted a 9.943 on an 11.25 index to top Cody Herron ’ s 9.026 against a 10.30 index and Tyler Cassil ’ s 9.696 against a 10.95 index . DI
A trio of SS / JA entries claimed the top three spots on the Super Stock qualifying order after four sessions . All three qualifying against an 11.00 index , Troy Huntzberry ( 9.552 ), Lincoln Morehead ( 9.601 ), and Russell Ghent ( 9.771 ) put on a great show in their bumper-dragging Camaros . DI
TOP SPORTSMAN LOW QUALIFIER JACKY BENNETT
Palatka , Florida ’ s Jacky Bennett came out swinging in Thursday ’ s second qualifying session when he ripped off a 6.168 at 217.74 in his ‘ 68 Camaro , which is powered by a ProCharger-boosted , Xtreme Racing Engines powerplant equipped with an FTI transmission and torque converter . He held off big runs by No . 2 qualifier and eventual winner Darian Boesch ( 6.194 at 230.41 ) and No . 3 qualifier Jimmy Lewis ( 6.239 at 225.48 ). DI
