Tommy Franklin can now say he ’ s doubled up with his daughter , Pro 632 winner Amber Franklin , in each of the three years they ’ ve raced in pro classes together . The three-time and defending Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous world champion qualified No . 2 in his Musi-powered “ Jungle Rat ” ’ 69 Camaro , then set low E . T . of all four rounds . He was unopposed in the final , as Billy Albert couldn ’ t start for his semifinal bye run . In another surprising moment , No . 1 qualifier Jim Halsey in his Fulton-powered ’ 68 Camaro fell to Derrick Ford in the first round . Defending event winner Marcus Butner in his Musi-powered Butner Construction ’ 69 Camaro qualified third and reached the semis .
For the second time in three years , Kurt Steding raced to victory at Maryland in WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive . This time , he shared the winner ’ s circle with his son , Pro Street winner Ethan Steding . He set low E . T . of three of four rounds in his screw-blown P2 Contracting ’ 69 Camaro , including a 3.601 over Melanie Salemi in the final . Salemi qualified second in Eddie Whelan ’ s screwblown “ Purple Reign ” ’ 68 Firebird and set low E . T . of the second round , but slowed to a 4.419 in the final . Johnny Camp in his Pro- Charged “ Hells Bells ” ’ 69 Camaro qualified third before a red light stopped him in the semis .
Things got all shook up in Liberty ’ s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition at Maryland , where points leader Johnny Pluchino lost to rival Chris Powers in the first round , and Powers lost to Elijah Morton in the second round . Morton in his No . 2-qualified , Allen-powered Cashion Fishing Rods ’ 19 Mustang went on to set low E . T . of the event with his 4.06 in the final . He was due to face No . 1 qualifier Jeremy Huffman , who encountered problems with his 3V Performance-powered ’ 10 Cobalt on the burnout . Fresh off a non- PDRA-sanctioned win , young gun Jordan Ensslin qualified No . 4 and reached the semis .
Past PDRA Pro 632 world champion Amber Franklin ’ s persistence paid off with her first win of the season in her Musi-powered “ OG Jungle Rat ” ’ 69 Camaro . She qualified No . 1 for the third time in four races , then raced to her third consecutive final round . There , she set low E . T . of the event with a 4.128 to beat Walter Lannigan Jr . and his 4.141 . Lannigan qualified second in Chris Holdorf ’ s Nelsonpowered Dewitt Custom Concrete ’ 10 GTO before racing to his second straight final . Reigning world champ Jeff Melnick in Alan O ’ Brien ’ s Greenbrier Excavating & Paving ’ 20 Camaro qualified third and reached the semis for the first time this year .
Menscer Motorsports Pro Street presented by Afco Racing rookie Ethan Steding backed up his first career win at Norwalk with a second consecutive win , again going unopposed in the final in his roots-blown P2 Contracting “ College Fund ” ’ 24 Camaro . He was set to face fellow rookie Dan Norris , who couldn ’ t get his roots-blown ’ 22 Mustang fired up . The two drivers qualified mid-pack , with Steding No . 6 and Norris No . 8 . Ty Kasper sat out the last couple races to refine his twin-turbo Victus Sports “ Sinatra ” ’ 05 Mustang , and his team ’ s efforts paid off with Kasper ’ s first career No . 1 qualifier award thanks to a 4.056 .
PRO EXTREME MOTORCYCLE
BRAYDEN DAVIS | CHRIS GARNER-JONES | BRUNSON GROTHUS
In just his second Drag 965 Pro Extreme Motorcycle appearance of the season , Brayden Davis raced to his second consecutive North vs . South Shootout win aboard his Timblin Chassis ’ 18 Hayabusa . He qualified No . 2 , then used a 3.975 in the final to beat Chris Garner-Jones and his 3.959 on a holeshot . Garner-Jones , the two-time and reigning world champ , qualified fourth on his T . T . Jones Racing ’ 18 Hayabusa and beat multi-time world champ Eric McKinney in the first round and No . 1 qualifier Brunson Grothus in the semis . Grothus came up just two thousandths short of Garner-Jones in the semis with his 4.045 aboard Robert Varela ’ s turbo entry .
