Farmington Dragway hosts 40th Big 5 Second Shootout

North Carolina ’ s Farmington Dragway celebrated the 40th running of the Big 5 Second Shootout on November 3 , 2024 , as 173 entries were on hand to battle it out for bragging rights of one of the longest-running and most prestigious bracket races in the area .

Third-generation drag racer Brett Myers of Clemmons , North Carolina , parked his beautiful Chevy Camaro in the winner ’ s circle to become the latest Big 5 Second Shootout winner
after getting past Stuart Smith of Lenoir , North Carolina , in the finals . Smith , who ’ s a past season champion of the Top category , was out of the gate first in his dragster with a . 001 reaction time , but was too quick at the stripe and broke out . Myers was dead-on his 5.90 dial and clinched the win .
Over the years , a number of other awards are handed out at this event , including the MJ Printing Best Reaction award , which went to Andy Beal of Thomasville , North Carolina , with
a . 0004 reaction time while wheeling the Danny Dilldine-owned dragster . Garry “ Hooter ” Hoots is a longtime sponsor of the low E . T . award , and this year , Mountain City , Tennessee , racer Katie Lipford took home the low E . T . award in the dragster category with a 4.24 at 165 MPH . Nick Cline , who regularly competes in the Mad Dawg class at Farmington , clocked a 4.51 at 156 MPH , which was the quickest E . T . of any door car on the property at this event .
