Following the continued growth of the World Series of Pro Mod, the next logical step for DI Founder and WSOPM promoter Wes Buck was expansion into a multirace series. That dream came together quickly as DI partnered with Bradenton Motorsports Park to incorporate its historic Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by Motion Raceworks and U. S. Street Nationals presented by M & M Transmission into the new DI Winter Series presented by J & A Service. ¶ With progressively increasing winner’ s prizes of $ 50,000, $ 75,000, and $ 150,000, combined with a $ 25,000 championship bonus and low qualifier awards, the Winter Series promised more than $ 350,000 to racers competing in the three-race Pro Modified championship series. ¶ Building on the formula that attracted record-setting fields to the WSOPM, the Winter Series featured invitation-only fields made up of world champions, race winners, record holders, seasoned veterans, and newcomers from drag racing’ s numerous series, sanctioning bodies, and classes. Pro Modified regulars from the PDRA, MWDRS, NMCA, NEOPMA, and NHRA Pro Mod were joined by fan favorites from the NHRA professional ranks and Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings, creating a mix of personalities that can’ t be found anywhere else in drag racing. ¶ The record fields, side-by-side racing, and big personalities created thrilling storylines throughout the Winter Series. In this commemorative WSOPM Issue, the DI team looks back on some of those stories that turned heads and made headlines.
