COOPER CHUN
South Point, Chun spoke about his experience.
“ Unbelievable. I didn’ t necessarily think coming into it that I was going to win,” he said.“ These events are marathons, and the best of the best show up. I feel that I’ m pretty accomplished, but to win one of these is a really big deal and hard to do. This is like the Mecca; this is the biggest of them all. So, I don’ t really know where to go from here. [ Jeff ] Verdi won both Millions in one year, so I’ d love the opportunity to do that.”
Due to the increased car count and weather delays, Laris Motorsports Insurance Thursday and FTI Performance Saturday were combined into one $ 60,000 race. During his first main event final-round appearance, Justin Hof turned on the last win light of the weekend over Cory Gulitti. Hof was also the only racer to produce a perfect run during this year’ s Fling Million.
The emotional celebration on the starting line from Hof’ s supporters continued in the winner’ s circle as he explained what this victory meant.“[ Winning ] feels great. This year, I just lost my grandma and another amazing person, so they both are riding with me this weekend. They just helped me out.” When asked about his perfect run, Hof said,“ All these guys out here are tough, so I figured I have to be tough.”
In stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the week’ s festivities, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway eventually darkened and resembled more of its neighboring desert. For now, the Fling staff turns their attention to four more thrilling events in its cross-country racing roadshow this season. And for those who missed what happens in Vegas … there’ s always next year. DI
