SCOTT PALMER’ S WILD RIDE
Scott Palmer entered the World Series of Pro Mod with possibly the best shot he’ s had in one of the Winter Series races. Good friend Mark Micke of M & M Transmission equipped his screw-blown Palmer & Longley Motorsports’ 63 Corvette with the latest in transmission and converter technology, and tuners Jeff Pierce and Billy Stocklin came on board to help him put it all together on-track.
All of that was an afterthought when a hung throttle sent Palmer into the field at the top end of the track during the second qualifying session. The nose dug into the soft, rain-soaked soil in the patch of earth known as the“ strawberry field,” which helped scrub quite a bit of speed, but Palmer still rolled multiple times in dramatic fashion.
“ When the throttle stuck, I hit the‘ chutes, and then I reached up to put it in neutral with my M & M transmission that Mark Micke gave me so I could be out here, and I just either didn’ t get it in neutral, or it was just too far gone,” Palmer told DI’ s Kayla Zadel.“ I reached back to hit the‘ chutes, I realized I didn’ t push the lever far enough, so I hit them, and it was just too late by the time I got everything together.”
All things considered, Palmer was in good spirits following the incident. With parts and pieces of his destroyed Corvette strewn about his pit area, Palmer was already thinking about his comeback.
“ I’ ve already read on Facebook that maybe I should give up Pro Mod racing,” he said with a laugh.“ I hope nobody thinks I will because I won’ t. I’ ll be back for sure.”
