The Pro Nitrous upsets continued at Virginia, starting with Virginia winner and 2023 Maryland winner Marcus Butner losing in the first round. Defending world champion Fredy Scriba lit his first win light of the season and went on to win in his Musi-powered“ Sorcerer”’ 69 Camaro, using a 3.712 to defeat Billy Albert’ s 3.727 in the final. Albert, tuned by“ Tricky” Rickie Smith in Stan Nance’ s Albert-powered Structural Mechanical’ 20 Camaro, was consistent at both ends of the track. Buddy Perkinson, the past Elite Top Sportsman world champ, took his Musi-powered LAT Racing Oil’ 69 Camaro to its second consecutive semifinal, where he fell to Albert on a slight holeshot. |
Similarly, Pro Boost remained unpredictable as teams battled hot conditions throughout the weekend. Ty Tutterow bounced back from a DNQ at Virginia by charging to his second career win – his first since 2017 – in the same Justin Smith-owned, screwblown Quik Fuel’ 69 Camaro that his father drove to victory twice last season. He ran a 3.667 to beat Steve King’ s 3.68 in the final. King, three races removed from his World Series of Pro Mod win, qualified No. 1 at Maryland for the second straight year and raced to his first Pro Boost final in Gene Pilot’ s screwblown“ Savage”’ 19 Corvette. Johnny Camp took over the points lead after qualifying No. 2 and reaching the semis. |
Blake Denton extended his lead in Pro Street with another strong performance in the“ Bonnie” Camaro. He qualified No. 2 behind retired Super Bowl champion Fletcher Cox, who earns an honorable mention on this list for earning his first No. 1 qualifier award in just his second start. Denton then made a string of clean, quick laps on race day, ending with a 4.019 to finish ahead of Dan Norris and his 4.055 in the final. Defending event champ Ethan Steding looked promising, but he lost traction in the semis. Dan Norris, Pro Street’ s next first-time winner waiting to happen, made it to his third career final in his rootsblown’ 22 Mustang. |
For the first time since his championship season in 2023, Alan Drinkwater returned to the winner’ s circle. This time, his win came with a boosted $ 10,000 Power Purse payday courtesy of C. R. Powers HVAC. He qualified No. 2 and ran a 4.12 and a pair of 4.15s on race day, ultimately defeating Elijah Morton’ s 4.182 in the final. In the semis, Drinkwater took out Jeremy Huffman, who set low E. T. of the first round. Morton, who struggled in qualifying, upset No. 1 qualifier Chris Powers in the opening round to earn a bye to his first final round of the season in his Allenpowered Morton Brothers Motorsports’ 19 Mustang. |
Jeff Melnick and the Greenbrier team built on a strong outing at Virginia by going one round further at Maryland. Melnick qualified No. 1 with a 4.168, and aside from a semifinal bye run, set low E. T. of every round. He won in the final when Lexi Tanner left too soon, but he still ran it out to a 4.224. Tanner in her Musipowered“ Thunder”’ 16 Camaro qualified No. 2 and stayed in the 4.19-4.22 range on race day before lifting when she went red in the final. Walter Lannigan kept up his momentum that started with a win at the season opener, adding a second consecutive semifinal finish as he chases his first championship. |
