Things get out of hand in a hurry for Jack Beckman as he fights to regain control of John Force’ s PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car in the semifinals at the NHRA New England Nationals. Lined up against 2023 Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod champion turned Funny Car rookie Spencer Hyde, Beckman went into violent tire shake and tried to pedal the 11,000-horsepower monster. The car then shot to the left across the center line and head-on into the left-side retaining wall. The right rear wheel and tire snapped off when the car smacked hard into the wall, adding to the uncontrollability of the car at that point. Beckman, who won the previous race on tour, the Gerber Collision Route 66 Nationals presented by PEAK near Chicago, walked away uninjured and raced the team’ s backup car the following weekend.
