Leaving Rocket City, the field took on their first drive section of the week. These Gassers had just proved themselves on the track, but how would they fare on 161 miles of highway? A leisurely roll along the Natchez Trace Parkway was followed by a cruise down Nashville’ s Broadway. Bachelorette parties and country music fans alike stopped in their tracks to watch the procession of horsepower!
Day two stopped at Music City Raceway in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. In an unusual sight, the bleachers were filled with skeletons and the pits by pumpkins as the venue had been rented out by a Halloween promoter for most of the month. We were off and racing, at least until Reggie Moore’ s“ Organ Grinder” hot rod dry-hopped into the Christmas tree. After an hour or two spent trying to repair the system, it was decided to spend the rest of the day doing flag drop racers.
Out on the road, 137 miles stood between Music City and Fitzgerald
Motorsports Park in Crossville, Tennessee. Traffic started a little rough on the way out of Nashville’ s outskirts, but soon gave way to winding roads.
Day three in Crossville proved much smoother. Cryer was once again quickest, improving slightly to a 4.685. Swindoll dropped back to a 5.237, giving third-placed Jarrod Aspegren a chance to close the gap thanks to a 5.101.
In the Gassers, Finnegan held on to a wild first pass that saw the Chevy get very crossed up, before returning for a 5.649. That gave second-placed Robbie Wysuph a chance to catch up with a 5.591 from his“ Disorderly Conduct” Chevy Nova.
B / Gas leader Matt Donovan gave the crowd a lengthy burnout before a 6.131 to keep his lead. Randy Quay, who put his car on the bumper at Music City before racing was stopped, handed in a 6.366, with Rob Tansey’ s supercharged“ Gatekeeper” Corvette lurking in second with a 6.439.
