Tonya Grabiak Mike Finnegan
Luke Cryer
Day six saw a return to competition at Brainerd Motorsports Park in Ringgold, Georgia. This friendly venue was packed out on a beautiful Saturday morning. The leaders stayed solid ahead of the final 148-mile drive to Huntsville, driving across Chattanooga’ s Lookout Mountain and back into Alabama.
After sunshine all week, the weather finally turned with some rain on Sunday morning. Thankfully, the clouds cleared and racing was able to begin in the early afternoon. Cryer set the quickest time of the week with a stunning 4.543 for a 4.631 average and the Overall victory – his first in what is still a relatively new car.
Finnegan celebrated an A / Gas win thanks to a 5.512 average, with Wysuph’ s 5.549 not far behind. Donovan pushed hard for a 5.966 final run in
B / Gas with a 6.125 average. Quay smiled all the way to the winner’ s circle following a 6.253 average for the Outlaw Gas win.
One more special helmet was handed out to Jay and Tonya Grabiak for the Spirit of the Smokies, awarded to the team that put on the best Gasser show.
As a one-off event, Edelbrock Sick Smokies was a truly special experience. Next year, Sick will head back to Route 66 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road for Sick 66, with more new tracks to come.
