driven by Jimmy Dale; Kallee Mills’ screw-blown American Pride Golf Carts“ Scarlett”’ 68 Camaro in MWDRS Pro Mod; and Bryan Priest’ s supercharged P6 Motorsports LDR Cadillac.
The first highlight of the weekend came in Radial vs. the World qualifying when Barnett lit up the VP Racing Fuels scoreboard with a 3.454-second E. T. at 217.50 mph. It was the quickest eighth-mile pass for a screw-supercharged door car in drag racing history.
“ There’ s plenty of other people that can do it, but it is cool to get to do that and have that,” says White, who points out the distinction that the run took place in competition at class-legal weight, not in an outlaw,“ run what ya brung” situation.“ But our goal is to win the race. We’ ve been the fastest car there lots of times, but we always tend to fumble the ball when it counts. So our biggest goal was we wanted to win. I try not to get too wrapped up in the E. T. numbers and who’ s faster. We really wanted to win.”
White followed through on that, tuning Barnett to a 3.457 at 217.08 in the final round to defeat 2024 Radial Outlaws RvW champion Chris Daniel and his 3.472 at 216.97. The trio of Barnett, White, and Youmans also reached the final round in Pro 275 with“ Salvage Title.”
“ It really would’ ve been nice to win Pro 275 too,” White says.“ I’ ve always wanted to have more than one car in the winner’ s circle at a race. I’ ve yet to pull it off. I’ ve been really close but never pulled it off yet, but it’ ll happen when it’ s meant to happen. But the Pro car aborted the run in the finals for whatever reason. It just didn’ t like it, and that’ s OK. We don’ t go out to go slow. We go out to run the best we can every time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’ t. It was a really great weekend overall. Anytime you lose in the finals, even though you win one and you lose one, you’ re still disappointed you lost.”
The weekend proved that the life-threatening
White nearly accomplished his goal of a doubleup as well, with Barnett reaching the Pro 275 final round in the“ Salvage Title” Mustang. Traction issues dashed the double-up hopes, though.
accident did nothing to dampen White’ s competitive spirit. It did, however, remind White that there’ s more to drag racing than what happens on the racetrack.
“ The way people were after that was pretty remarkable,” White says.“ The kindness people showed us and the amount of people that came to the hospital to see me was really, really overwhelming. It’ s a pretty awesome industry we race in. It’ s our job, but it’ s a pretty awesome world we live in.” DI
Radial vs. the World had a short field at the northernmost stop on the FuelTech Radial Outlaws tour, but past series champion Chris Daniel provided plenty of competition for the Tommy Youmans Racing team.
