Every day we are faced with choices. Not one day goes by without you having to make a choice about something in your life. Some choices are big and some are small, and all choices have consequences.
I recently started thinking about some of the choices I have made in my life and how the things I choose today are so much better than my former choices. I have learned not to look back in regret, but just for a glimpse so I don’ t repeat my past poor choices.
What I see in many people today is them blaming others for their own poor choices. I recently had a man blame the food industry for his unhealthy weight, and when I said it was his choice to eat the garbage he was eating, he got upset with me for speaking the truth.
Well, people, let me tell you why my column has been called the“ Real Deal.” It’ s because I speak the truth, period! No sugarcoating, just pure truth. Most of us have heard the saying,“ The truth will set you free,” and that is for sure, as long as you accept the truth.
I tried a little experiment recently. I have a large candy bowl in my waiting room at our shop, and I fill it at least once a week with all sorts of goodies. One week, I decided to remove the candy and fill the bowl with healthy snacks. For a month, that bowl stayed full, but once I switched back to candy, it emptied quickly. Even though people who came in would always ask why we didn’ t have healthier snacks, those same people still chose the candy and left the healthier snacks in the bowl. It just proved that people found it easier to make a less healthy choice.
As someone who takes health and fitness seriously, it still amazes me at the choices people make that are killing them because it tastes and feels good. People, stop being so weak and start making choices that can impact your life positively, and stop making the wrong choice and then blaming someone else for your actions.
This is not just about food, either. Poor financial decisions are wrecking homes and relationships in record numbers. Just because you can have it now doesn’ t mean you should get it. Racers, listen up: don’ t get rid of that perfectly good race car because you want a new one like someone else. If you have a ton of money to throw away, then go and do it, but if not, please race within your means and stop comparing yourself to someone else.
I could go on and on, but the point I want to get across is that your choices today shape your future. Don’ t go on and on making poor decisions. You can begin immediately by changing the way you choose. Making better choices will no doubt make for a better life. As always, the choice is yours to make. DI
