NO FEAR
Wayne Landry aims his 1967 Camaro for the sky at Mississippi’s Gulfport
Dragway during a King of the Coast event, a popular series that gathers
six weekends per season at Gulfport. Landry, a resident of Saint Bernard,
Louisiana, nearly lost this car completely during Hurricane Katrina,
which slammed the Gulf Coast in 2005. “Katrina didn’t kill my desire to
go drag racing, but it sure cost a fortune to put this car back together,”
says Landry, who races the car locally, and also tours to select IHRA
Sportsman National Championship Series events. As for the car’s exciting,
wheel-standing antics, it’s a definite fan favorite and also a fun ride
for Landry. “I told my crew chief, Herb Buras, that when this car stops
carrying the front end, that’s when I’m getting rid of it!” laughs Wayne.
