WHAT A WINTER ! RECORDS DESTROYED WHILE YOU WAIT !
The winter months of late 2023 and early 2024 will be forever remembered as one of the most thrilling in drag racing history with shattered records produced at almost every event held . Most of those new marks were set during the multitude of big money , high profile events conducted at Victor Alvarez ’ s Bradenton ( FL ) Motorsports Park where the Snowbird Nationals , the U . S . Street Nationals , the PRO Superstar Shootout and the DI World Series of Pro Modified were held over the brief span of ten weeks .
All records were early contenders for “ Run of the Year ” while several will be considered in the tabulations for “ Run of the Decade ” and “ Run of the Century ”. From the astounding Funny Car blast of 341.68 miles per hour by Bob Tasca III in his Mustang to Antron Brown ’ s 339.62 mph , the fastest Top Fuel Dragster speed ever clocked , to the obliteration of nearly every doorslammer standard , the holiday season was exhausting .
Jose Gonzalez opened with the quickest doorslammer quarter-mile pass of all time by wheeling Mark Micke ’ s twin turbocharged Camaro to a 5.35 at 272.94 mph while Jason Scruggs debuted his new lightweight screw-supercharged ’ 69 Camaro with the quickest eighth-mile unlimited Pro Modified clocking ever at 3.46 seconds , ( 218.76 mph ). It was Texas turbo legend Todd Moyer , however , who overshadowed all those achievements by driving his Carl Stevens , Jr ., built and tuned twin-turbo 2014 Camaro to the quickest quarter-mile door car run of all time by an astounding twenty-one hundredths of a second with a 5.14 at a coasting 273.44 mph . The effort also included the quickest and fastest eighth-mile for any passenger car at 3.45 seconds and 233.92 mph .
While each of these performances was chronicled heavily as they happened in Drag Illustrated online , they bear revisiting here for the sheer amazement each created as they changed the DI Top 8 standings for their respective categories .
“ STEVIE FAST ” UNLEASHES HIS “ SHADOW ” WITH THE QUICKEST RADIAL SHOT EVER !
Stevie Jackson made history with his new screw-supercharged “ Shadow 3.0 ” 1968 Camaro at the second event of the Radial Outlaws Racing Series at Alabama International Raceway . After debuting the new machine , which includes a chassis originally created by Tommy Mauney and tweaked by RK Racecraft , with a string of 3.5-second screamers , Jackson won the first event in the new RORS tour , Donald Long ’ s “ Lights Out XV ” at Ozzie Moya ’ s South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil , Georgia , with a staggering 3.504 / 213.06 .
That was nothing compared to the shocking 3.500 / 211.61 posted in qualifying at the Steele , Alabama , meet before Jackson ’ s Camaro , powered by a KTR Chrysler Hemi , opened eliminations with a jaw-dropping 3.486-second , 213.86 mph clocking which surpassed the three-year old 3.497 Radial Tire record set by Daniel Pharris in a centrifugally-supercharged ’ 69 Camaro .
While the division ’ s first “ three-forty ” instantly put “ Stevie Fast ” back in the lead position of DI ’ s Unlimited Radial Top 8 , it
