LAFERRIERE TAKES X275 ELIMINATOR TO A NEW REALM !
Eric LaFerriere ’ s amazing performances with his unique “ White Rice ” machine have earned him records in everything from eighth-mile and quarter-mile competition to “ roll racing ” in even longer distances . In a one-month period , however , the Rhode Islander has taken smalltire racing into a new era .
The X275 Eliminator , created by John Sears almost fifteen seasons ago , may be one of the most heavily restricted divisions in all of drag racing but nobody can argue its impressive parity among seemingly a zillion combinations since its creation . Over the years , performances have dropped almost a full second in a class which mandates a 275mm rear radial tire width , ( 10.82 inches ). Originally considered an “ entry level ” class for the now wide variety of Radial programs racing around the nation , X275 is a war zone of innovation and technology among everything from monster nitrous-aided engines to turbocharged smallblocks to crazy creations best exemplified by Ryan Milliken ’ s extremely competitive 1969 Chevy Nova which is powered by a single turbocharger with nitrous oxide injection atop a 414 cubic-inch six-cylinder Cummins diesel engine !
Based on multiple minimum weights , there are forty-four different accepted combinations in the 2024 X275 rulebook which includes bigblock V8s , smallblock V8s , V-6s , inline sixes and four cylinders with single turbos , centrifugal

and Roots superchargers or nitrous oxide injection for carburetors or Electronic Fuel Injection in late model and nostalgia bodies .
Laferriere , however , made some interesting rules decisions with car owner Duy Bui to create the “ White Rice ” 1997 Nissan 240SX coupe which uses the popular Toyota 2JZ 190 cubic inch inline six-cylinder , an 88mm Precision Turbo and one of Shane Tecklenburg ’ s MoTec ECUs . The X275 rules state the turbo inline six-cylinder can use nitrous oxide injection if equipped with an automatic transmission so Duy and Eric installed a Mark Micke-built M & M automatic and added a Nitrous Outlet N2O system for which even the jet size is mandated in the rulebook . With it all stuffed in a Tim Nicholson Race Cars chassis , the ProSpeed Auto Sports Nissan immediately showed potential .
With everybody in the category chasing the two year-old class record of 4.108 , ( set with a ProCharger-blown 478 cubic inch 2009 Dodge Challenger ), it was LaFerriere who became the first X275 racer in the “ four ohs ” at Long ’ s “ Lights Out XV ” at SGMP with a stunning 4.098 at a new class speed record of 183.72 mph . A month later at the RORS tour stop at Steele , Alabama , the “ White Rice ” 240SX raised its best speed to 183.86 but lost the class record to Dom DiDonato ’ s turbocharged smallblock Mustang from Delaware which hit an incredible 184.16 .
It must be noted the Dui-LaFerriere duo also holds both ends of the X275 quarter-mile record with an astonishing 6.36 at 231.16 set at Maryland International Raceway ’ s World Cup Finals in late 2023 and earned the title of the World ’ s Quickest and Fastest Radial Import .
