TAYLOR / STEVENS DEMOLISH ALL-TIME E. T. RECORD!
Almost exactly a decade ago, Carl Stevens, Jr. burst on to the Pro Modified scene with a homebuilt twin-turbocharged’ 69 Camaro which became the first passenger car to eclipse 230 miles per hour in an eighth of a mile. Eight years later, the owner of New Jersey-based Xtreme Racing Engines teamed with Texas turbo racing legend Todd Moyer to obliterate eighth-mile and quarter-mile records with a 5.14-second elapsed time over two-tenths of a second quicker than any machine before it. The car also posted eighth-mile efforts of 3.45 at over 233 mph.
In 2025, Stevens and his father, Carl, Sr., took a PRC Fabrication-built 1969 Camaro and added one of their own XRE 524-cubic inch( 4.9 bore space) Hemi engines. They added a Rossler Turbo-Hydro 400 automatic with a Neal Chance billet titanium Prototype lock up converter. The objective was to exceed Moyer’ s 5.14 / 273 best with Stevens, Jr., at the wheel.
However, in August, 2025, standout Tennessee radial racer Jimmy Taylor purchased the car and Stevens returned to his role of crewchief and tuner, a position he capably filled with Moyer. With the powerplant of his own design which he both sells and leases from XRE, Stevens was able to devote all his attention to extracting the most power from his 7,000-horsepower creation and begin the quest to apply as much of that power as possible to the ground.
After initially testing the car at Jim Halsey’ s Cecil County Dragway in Maryland, the team spent a month of running private sessions at Royce Miller’ s Maryland International Raceway

where Stevens and Taylor began setting records. Taylor proved his mettle as a driver by almost immediately shattering Moyer’ s eighth-mile records with a 3.454 at 234.09 mph. Next, the duo struck with a seemingly effortless 3.430 and an amazing 237.09 mph eighth-mile which earned Taylor both ends of the“ doorslammer” record by two hundredths of a second and a startling three miles per hour.
Their next run shook the Unlimited Pro Modified world. Using far less than the power available, Taylor wheeled the blue Camaro to an unearthly 3.387 and a simply mind-numbing 240.29 mph, exceeding Moyer’ s best by seven hundredths of a second and seven miles per hour. The team made several more test runs but were unable to better those numbers.
Stevens’ original deal with Royce Miller was to test in private and then make attempts on the quarter-mile passenger car marks,( 5.14 by Moyer in 2024 and 278.79 mph by the twin-turbo Lexus RC F of Bahrain’ s Khalid Mohammed in February, 2018), at the monstrous 29th annual HalTech World Cup Finals at MIR, an event which again sold out of spectator tickets for all five days a week before the race. Stevens and Taylor knew they would need to gradually progress downtrack on multiple runs while applying more power and locking up the transmission earlier on each pass. The team started with an early shut-off 5.25 at a mere 214.79 mph which included an incredible,( for a turbo machine), 0.926 sixty-feet ET, a 3.40 / 233.88 eighth and a world record 4.33 at one thousand feet which bettered Moyer’ s 4.36.
After a run each day which showed the car’ s eighth-mile consistency but never bettered the 5.25, the team finally got a solid pass on the
