SMOKE SCREEN

Laying down a burnout that only a turbo car can do, Chris Mattingly fills the starting line area with thick tire smoke in his patched-up’ 69 Camaro as he takes to the track for the first qualifying session in the Pro 10.5 Challenge at the WSOPM. Mattingly, who owns and operates U. S. 60 Dragway in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, with his wife, Shelby, had a mishap in the pits earlier in the week that saw his Camaro run into the fence in front of his pit area. Fortunately, the no one was hurt, the damage was minimal, and Mattingly returned for qualifying, albeit with some duct tape on his otherwise spotless machine. Mattingly laid down a weekend-best 4.046 in the opening round, but it wasn’ t enough to get past the returning Ty Kasper, who also posted a weekend-best 3.962 in his turbocharged Boost Gangster Mustang.
