North Carolina’ s Roxboro Motorsports Park has enjoyed a rich history dating back to 1959, and while some believed the best days were behind this vintage eighth-mile facility, there’ s a lot going on these days, and an optimistic outlook is definitely being rekindled. The turn-around effort can be traced back to approximately seven years ago when Jody Williams bought the track and began to improve the facility in every direction. Prior to Williams

buying Roxboro, the track was mainly being used as a testing facility, with hardly a dependable schedule to speak of.
In order to add some much-needed structure to the racing program, Williams needed a key person with tons of organization skills, and that’ s when Angela Mason entered the picture.“ Becoming track manager was definitely a spur-of-themoment decision, and I’ m not even real sure how it happened!” she laughs.
By all accounts, she’ s perfect for the role, and

the results of her leadership speak volumes. Mason and her husband, David, have been involved in drag racing for many years, after meeting at Virginia’ s New London Dragway in 2014.“ Angela and her son were racing there, and I was pitted right beside them,” recalls David. The two hit it off and were married on the starting line of New London two years later, and when the track shut down a short time later, that’ s when their attention turned to Roxboro and began racing here a lot more often. |
