The most predictable thing that happened in Pro Nitrous was Jim Halsey qualifying No . 1 , but a parts failure in the final qualifier sent Halsey on a wild ride that left him out of a ride for race day . Fredy Scriba , third in points behind Halsey and Tommy Franklin going into the weekend , capitalized by driving his Musi-powered “ Sorcerer ” ’ 69 Camaro to his first points-earning win in the class . He set low E . T . of race day with his 3.684 in the final to beat a red-lighting “ Tricky ” Rickie Smith , taking over the points lead in the process . Smith ’ s Musi-powered Parkway Ford ’ 22 Mustang was a bracket car in the low 3.70s until the final .
Pro Boost saw its fair share of upsets as well , with points leader Kurt Steding going out in the first round . That opened the door for Jason Harris , who qualified No . 1 in his ProCharged Southern Diamond Company ’ 69 Camaro and raced to victory to take over the points lead . Harris ran a 3.622 in the final to defeat Todd “ King Tut ” Tutterow ’ s 3.626 by just . 005 in a rematch of the season opener final round . Tutterow set low E . T . of E1 and stayed in the low 3.60s in Justin Smith ’ s screw-blown Quik Fuel ’ 69 Camaro . Randy Weatherford had one of his best race days in a while , running progressively quicker in his Pro- Charged WS Construction ’ 20 Camaro .
There was a narrow door for two-time Extreme Pro Stock world champ Johnny Pluchino to pass Chris Powers for the points lead , but Powers basically shut it when he ran a 4.101 in the final to beat Pluchino ’ s 4.105 . Jeremy Huffman , who qualified No . 1 for the second time this season , nearly played spoiler until he had problems in the semis in his 3V Performance-powered ’ 10 Cobalt . He also set low E . T . of race day with his 4.086 in the first round . Pluchino , who was quickest in the semis with a 4.108 in his Kaase-powered Feather- Lite Batteries ’ 13 Mustang , needs a miracle at Virginia . Powers ’ second win of the season padded his lead substantially .
Past Pro 632 world champion Amber Franklin Denton , who married reigning Super Street world champion Blake Denton between Bristol and Drag- Wars , swept the DragWars weekend by qualifying No . 1 ( for the fifth time in six races ), clinching the world championship in the semis , and winning the race . She ran a 4.16 in three of the four rounds , including in the final round over Walter Lannigan Jr .’ s 4.188 . It was Lannigan ’ s third final round of the season in Chris Holdorf ’ s hot rod . Jason Ventura looked strong in his Hameetmanpowered Gladiator X ’ 70 Camaro , laying down a pair of 4.19s and a 4.20 on race day .
The champ is back ! Reigning Pro Street world champion Bill Riddle wasn ’ t even sure if he was going to GALOT until a few days before the race . His decision to make the trip from Michigan paid off when he raced to his first win of the season , driving his roots-blown Corrigan Race Fuels ’ 89 Camaro to a 3.981 in the final round to beat Richard Reagan and his 4.456 . It was a career-best day for Reagan and his screw-blown ’ 90 Mustang , starting with a first-round win over Riddle ’ s teammate , Dan Norris , an E2 win over teammate Scott Kincaid , and a semifinal win over twotime world champ Tim Essick . Kincaid earned his first No . 1 qualifier award in his screw-blown ’ 69 Camaro .
